About Caln Quarter

Caln Quarter is a Quaker group located in south-central Pennsylvania. It is composed of nine local Meetings. It is one of the thirteen Quaker Quarterly Meetings in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, which is the largest yearly meeting in the United States. The purpose of Caln Quarter is to provide a supportive community for Quakers in the region and to promote Quaker values and practices. This includes the pursuit of social justice, peace, and equality, as well as spiritual growth and discernment.

Caln Quarter can be traced back to the early days of Quakerism in Pennsylvania. Over the years, Caln Quarter has played an important role in the Quaker community in south-central Pennsylvania, providing support and guidance to local meetings and individual Quakers. It has also been involved in a variety of social justice initiatives, including the abolition of slavery, the civil rights movement, and the pursuit of peace.

Today, Caln Quarter continues to be an active and vibrant community of Quakers, committed to living out their faith and values in the world. For more information on Quakers, visit the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting website!

Quarterly Meeting Dates

There are four meetings per year:

 

  • Spring | First Saturday in May except those years when the first Saturday falls on Mother’s Day weekend;
    then it is the last Saturday in April | at Camp Swatara
     

  • Summer | Third Sunday in August | at a Meeting within the Quarter
     

  • Fall  | Third Sunday in October | at Old Caln Meetinghouse
     

  • Winter | Third Sunday in February | at a Meeting within the Quarter

More on Pendle Hill

Pendle Hill is a Quaker study, retreat, and conference center located on a 23-acre (9.3 ha) campus in suburban Wallingford, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. It was named for the hill in Lancashire, England, where Quaker founder George Fox shared his beliefs. Founded in 1930, Pendle Hill offers programs open to people of all faiths. The campus includes lawns, buildings, worship spaces, a large organic garden, and a walking path lined with trees.

Pendle Hill also serves as a publishing house, and one of its most visible programs is its pamphlet series, which produces six pamphlets a year. Recent topics have included spiritual nurture, Quaker practice, and pacifism. There are more than 4,590 pamphlets, many of which are classics in Quaker spirituality. The Pendle Hill Bookstore is a useful resource for Friends looking for Quaker resources perhaps not easily found in their local community.​
